Oregon incentivizes health care providers to focus on social determinants of health, while Medicaid expansion has emphasized the importance of addressing health disparities. Similarly, conservation groups integrate equity into their agendas by embracing the “human dimension” of their efforts. All the while, leaders in business, academia, and government support research about the health effects of the built environment, and urban design policies focusing on active transportation, neighborhood walkability and reducing traffic.  Despite great potential for cross-sector solutions, health systems remain wary of funding implementation, evaluation, and necessary research to propel this work to the next level.

Let's explore how to move our collective work forward. We see the need and opportunity for engaging the health sector in investing in programs, interventions and research that link time spent outdoors and improved health outcomes for all children, especially those experiencing inequities (i.e., children with disabilities, children of color, children in rural areas and/or children from low-income families).
