Wondering about how to engage urban youth in nature-based experiences? This panel will share their insights and experiences about programs and methods for including diverse communities in parks. They describe inspiring and diverse approaches for engaging people of all ages, ethnicities, incomes and cultural backgrounds, from nature novices to natural mentors, in urban parks. Some approaches involve structured and guided outdoor activities in nature; others are place-based in ways that encourage self-guided participation by diverse groups. Special emphasis is placed on effective ways to reach low-income children and youth in urban environments. Programs and strategies for engagement from both the U.S. and Canada will inspire participants to increase park participation, environmental education, park stewardship, and key partnerships.
